These are my church clothes

My friend Suzan over at Simply Vintageous sent me a message about her link up today. I  have been under the weather this last week with a stupid chest cold that won't go away. But I did finish my buffet and here are the completed pics. And although I hate having my picture taken, I am going to participate in the link that Suzan has today, because I will do anything for a friend. And if I don't she won't let me get away with it lol

this is my outfit when I paint
sometime I tie up my hair or I wear a hat to keep it out of my eyes
I usually steal one of hubby's old shirts and wear some stretchy black capris
And most times I am covered in paint
No it ain't pretty but that's the look lol
Good thing my neighbours aren't close by

Years ago when I was in sales I had so many beautiful outfits
You would never know it to look at what I wear now
but I used to have high heels with matching purses and lots of suits and dresses
I have not worn heals in years, probably couldn't walk in them for the life of me
I am home in my blue jeans
And if I am working on projects I wear whatever I can ruin with paint
I may not look pretty but I am comfortable and in my happy place

OK now for something that is pretty

this is the buffet I picked up at Salvation Army, its in good shape
except on pane of glass is missing from the cupboards

when I first started painting this piece I was going to do two shades of colour
I have never used Annie Sloan's cream and I wanted to give it a try
I only had a small test pot
So I was going to paint the whole thing white and do the drawers cream
I started painting the drawers and fell in love with the cream
So mixing two test pots of cream and one quart of white, this is the colour I came up with
I love it

I did not like the wooden handles that came with the buffet and knew I was going to change them
It took some searching but I found a set at the restore
an hour of searching through bins and I was able to find enough to do this piece

While browsing home depot I found these handles and priced them
$5.97 a piece x 12 pieces
would have cost me a fortune, that is why I love the restore cost me less than $10.00 for all of them

I wanted to put chicken wire in the doors where the glass was and experimented with two before I chose the right one

I painted the chicken wire with an antique bronze so it would match the handles

And here she is all finished and looking stunning
She sold within an hour of being posted on my face book
and is now in her new home

I think she looks fabulous and will be entertaining for many years to come

I am hoping I can shake this cold and get back to painting
Only I could get sick just when the nice weather gets here

hope everyone is having an great week

please check out the Tongue and Cheek Tuesday
to see all of your fellow bloggers in their painting clothes
and please show us yours

And my lil sidekick Maggie who is loving this nice weather

Buffets and Bulldogs

It looks like I took more than just a day off, has it really been a week since my last post?
 Bad bad Tobey.
I have been busy, doing some spring cleaning and trying to work on things in the garage.

Do you find that you buy new pieces and start working on them when you have other stuff
waiting in the garage.
Sometimes you leave pieces sitting for so long it is hard to get started
on them.
I am going to refrain from buying new pieces and try to work in what I have.
 Its going to be
hard but I really have enough to keep me busy for while.

I am going to work on the big pieces first and making some room in the garage.

I chose this piece to work on this week, isn't it cute
one pane of glass is missing so I am going to do something different for the doors

This little silverware drawer had the green felt glued to it
It was a pain to remove, but I got it all off

I painted this piece a nice light cream colour
I am working on the doors and hunting down some new hardware
As you can see the knobs were wood and I think this piece needs
hardware that really stands out

Will post pics when it is all done, going to check out the restore today
and see if I can find some hardware

I need some help with another piece I picked up
I bought this because it is interesting, but am unsure what to do with it

here is the piece, when you look at it what do you see ?

I think it must have been used for sewing supplies
I am thinking that is what the metal rods were for , thread?

I see either a large jewelry box or a night stand
But I need some help, any suggestions
I think it needs some feet and something on the top

What would you do to it?

Hope everyone is having a good week
And that spring has finally come to you

Happy Picking Happy Painting

And my little sidekick is sneaking into a pic
This is another piece that needs my attention
yes Maggie you want my attention too

off for a walk with Maggie
bye for now

I am taking a day off

Even though I do not have a job outside of the house I feel like I am always on the go. I am either running errands or shopping for projects or working in the garage on furniture. There is always something that needs to be done, groceries, laundry, housework etc.

I get up with hubby at 4:30 am and make him breakfast and his lunch and see him off to work. A friend asked me why I do that every morning, and I said its because he works and I don't. She said what do you mean you don't work, most days you work harder than he does. I guess that is true because he even says that when I tell him about my day. But I know he works long hours and he does not have the luxury to just say OK today I am doing nothing.

Like I did today .

Today I got up and it was cold and rainy so I couldn't work outside or in the garage. So I thought ok what should I do. There are a million things I could have done, start packing and organizing for our move. Go shop for future projects or buy supplies. Or I could do some housework or laundry. None of those ideas appealed to me today.

So I thought what the hell I am taking a day off. I put on my comfy clothes and put on a movie. Yes I watched a chick flick, you have to watch "This is 40" I loved it. And I ate a bowl of ice cream and laid on the couch and did nothing. Maggie dumped all of her toys out all over the living room and played and we both had a day off.

After the movie, the rain had stopped so Maggie and I went for a walk and listened to the birds chirp and we fed the ducks and we sat by the river
it was so peaceful and so relaxing I could have stayed there all day

And then we came back to the house and I wrote this post.
Maggie is sleeping at my feet and you know what that is a great idea
When was the last time I had a nap in the middle of the day

After all it is my day off and I can spend it anyway I want

When was the last time you took a day off and rested
I mean really rested, did nothing all day

Maybe its time

OK I am going to go have a nap now

like this tired little guy

I know I deserved it and so do you

and my  lil side kick Maggie

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My hubby has no clue what I do

This is an old post but I thought I would share it, in case you missed it

I have taken the last two weeks off to let my body and leg heal after my fall
I am feeling much better and I am ready to get back to work
more projects to come soon

Hope everyone is well and finally getting some nice weather

Today I realized that my husband really has no idea what goes on in the garage and with my projects. He works long hours and if he is not at work, he is sleeping or laying on the couch. He works 4 weeks straight without a day off and that is tough on your body. I understand that and I try to take all of that in to consideration when I ask for help in the garage.

Today he came out after work to help me lift a new 9 drawer dresser I had just bought. I am hoping to make it into a gorgeous entertainment centre.
I mentioned I had to wax a vanity before I took it to the store to sell. This is that conversation.

Hubby with no clue: Won't it be hard for them to write on it with chalk if you wax it
Tobey: Why would they be writing on a vanity?
Hubby with no clue: I thought that's why you paint everything with chalk paint
Tobey: You really have no clue what I do, do you?
Hubby with no clue: Yes I do
Tobey: Really tell me
Hubby with no clue: You paint stuff with chalkboard paint then you wax it
Tobey: So the dressers, vanities, dining room tables and chairs that I have painted is for everyone to use as chalkboard, have I got that right
Tobey: And everything is painted with chalkboard paint
Hubby with no clue: Well that's what I thought you bought the Anne Sloan paint for, why don't you just use regular paint then, if they don't write on it

I just stood there and looked at him, I realized that all of the conversations I have had with him over this last year about Anne Sloan had fallen on deaf ears. He had no idea why he drove with me 4 hours each month to buy paint, he did it because he had too. All the times I talked to him about waxing and distressing furniture he wasn't listening. He really had no idea what chalk paint was or why I used it. He seriously thought everything I painted and sold, was so people could draw on it with chalk
All he heard this last year was bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

When I read other blogs about husband and wives working together on projects it makes me jealous. I want that so bad, to work side by side on something together. But I know that will never happen, not in this life time.

The garage is my domain and he very rarely comes in there, actually I think it scares him to even look in there. He will help me if I ask him if something is too heavy or I can't get a screw out or something like that. But as soon as he is done I turn around and he is gone.

Some women lay in bed at night and dream of romantic sexy men. I dream of one that will come work in the garage with me. My hubby knows this, his answer is some guys are handy and some are handsome. Apparently he thinks he is the handsome type lol
I keep telling him I am going to trade him in for a handsome and handy man, but he doesn't believe
me. But a girl can dream........................

And here is a peak at what I am working on this week,

one pane of glass is missing, so I am planning something different for that
Right now I am having a hard time choosing a colour

Any suggestions ?

And I had to share a pic of something I picked up this week
I could not resist this
Yes I know I am supposed to be downsizing but when I saw this I had to have it
I will take it back to Ontario
and either use it as a bathroom vanity or as a buffet

Isn't it gorgeous, can you see why I had to have it

Right now I am thinking I should paint it white on the bottom and restain the top

I have had a few offers on it but I am not willing to part with it
This baby is coming back to Ontario with me

And now I need to get motivated after being off for a few weeks
and get back to work

hope everyone is well
have you been to any yard sales yet?
I haven't seen any out here yet
are there yard sales in your area?
I guess it all depends on how nice the weather is where you live
I know some areas still have snow

hope its spring where you are
